Welcome to My Blog!
Helen McHugh, RN, BSN.
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. I’m passionate about: self-care for nurses. As a former hospice and palliative care neurodivergent nurse, I am well aware that self care and support is critically important for nurses.
In this blog, I’ll be sharing tools, thoughts for reflection, my own personal journey on the never-ending road of self care and much more. When I first started working on this blog, I asked myself, What do I have to offer that’s different? What can I share that will stand out from what other nurse entrepreneurs in this arena are already doing? It may be that I tend to think differently than most people. I have ADHD, combined type* and this trait gives me some naturally out of the box thinking. While ADHD can be challenging (Where did I put my keys?) I see coming at things in a different way as one of my main strengths! My hope is that as you get to know me here, you will see that too.
Now, let’s talk a little more about this blog. You’ll find topics that may not seem directly tied to well-being at first glance. I enjoy exploring subjects that seem like a stretch— if that resonates with you, you’re in the right place! For example, my next blog dives into the science of curiosity and its surprising benefits for health, relationships, and even patient care. (Hint: as a nurse, curiosity can positively affect how you connect with patients and outcomes!)
You’ll also find posts about play, imagination, body-mind connection, work-life balance to start with — topics I know many others write about, but I hope my unique perspective, and a little humor, will make them enjoyable for you to read. (The benefits of positive emotion, you know!)
I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and friendly feedback. Feel free to connect with me on my website, helenmchugh.com, Facebook, (Gaby, I want to create my business Facebook page and include my Instagram and YouTube addresses) and Instagram. You can also see me on my YouTube channel (it’s just getting started, but stay tuned!).
Thank you for being here—truly. And take good care of yourself!
With gratitude and a smile,
Helen
